Most tours show you Morocco from the outside. This berber trekking route puts you inside it, eating in family kitchens, sleeping in village guest houses, crossing mountain passes above 2.400 meters, and walking past villages with terraced gardens carved into the hillside on the way through the Azzaden Valley, one of the most beautiful corners of the High Atlas. It’s less a Berber tour than an invitation, and for eight days, you’re not a visitor passing through.
This berber tour also means learning who your hosts are. The Berbers, or Amazigh, predate the arrival of the Arabs and Islam in this region, and their culture still shapes daily life in the Atlas: earthen pisé homes built from stone and mud, hearty dishes built around barley and couscous, and a language carrying traces of French, Spanish, and Arabic from centuries of contact. You’ll see all of it firsthand, not read about it in a guidebook.
